Ordering & Delivery

Ordering & Delivery

How far in advance can I order my cheese?

You can order online up to 6 months in advance and choose the day you’d prefer your cheese to arrive. Whilst most orders arrive on their chosen day, because we rely on third party couriers to deliver our orders, we can't guarantee that your order will arrive on the exact day you choose. If your order is required for a specific date or special occasion, we recommend you choose for your order to arrive a day or two earlier than needed.

We cut cheese to order, from the cheese in the shop, on the day of dispatch to ensure that it is as fresh as possible when it arrives with you.

Typically we accept orders for next day delivery up to 1pm the day before, although during peak times lead times we may extend this.

If you are ordering cheese for delivery for a special occasion, be sure to select a delivery date a day or two in advance of your event in case of courier delays. For example, if your event is over the weekend, it is best to choose Wednesday or Thursday as the preferred delivery day.

How much cheese to buy?

As a general rule of thumb, we would recommend roughly between 100 and 150 grams per person for after dinner, and a bit more if cheese is the focus of the meal.

If you are buying cheese to serve over a couple of days or as part of a buffet, it is advisable to buy a few larger pieces. This will both look better and keep better than many small bits.

To help visualise weights, a good tip is to consider that a regular supermarket pat of butter weighs between 200 and 250 grams.

Can I choose when I want my cheese to arrive?

Yes you can. At the check out you will be presented with the delivery options available to you:

National Overnight Delivery

Choose your preferred delivery date, up to 6 months in advance. If you provide us with a mobile phone number you will receive text notifications allowing you to track your order and keeping you up to date with its progress. Your order will generally be delivered between 9am and 5pm on your chosen date.

Some products, such as fresh dairy and bread, are not available on this service and are only delivered locally using the London delivery service. These products are clearly marked on their individual web pages.

As we use third party couriers (typically DHL), unfortunately we cannot guarantee the arrival day of your order. We normally dispatch orders one day prior to your preferred delivery day. We assure you that we will do our best to ensure that it arrives on or as close to your chosen delivery date as possible.

Named One-Hour Slot London Delivery Service

We offer a same-day delivery service in London to all addresses within an 8 mile radius of our shop in Chelsea. This area covers most of the tube zones 1-4. You can choose your delivery slot from as soon as immediate (within an hour or so), to a named one-hour slot on any date up to 6 months in advance (except on days when the shop is closed).

Just select the time and date that you would like your order to arrive and we’ll take care of the rest.

Your order will be fully tracked, so please leave a mobile number and/or e-mail address if you would like to receive this information.

For the time being, fresh bread, dairy and some fresh cheese is only available on this service. If your order doesn’t contain these goods then you may want to consider using the overnight national delivery service for lower delivery costs.

Do you charge for delivery?

National Overnight Delivery

Standard nationwide delivery, on an overnight service, to all mainland Great Britain addresses, is £8 for orders under £50 and free for orders of £50 or more.

For more remote addresses, such as the Channel Islands and the Highlands of Scotland, orders generally take a little longer and cost a little more to deliver. Please give us a quick call, or e-mail us, and we’ll be very happy to help arrange this for you.

Named One-Hour Slot London Delivery Service

Same-day and a named one-hour slot delivery in London varies in cost depending on the distance from our shop, starting from £6 and rising to £19 for the furthest addresses. The precise cost is quoted to you at the checkout and is calculated by using a straight line distance between our shop and your delivery location.

Items only available for delivery in London

Due to the nature of some products in our shop, and the delivery services available to us for national orders, we can only deliver some items locally.

These are marked very clearly on their individual product pages, but generally they include all fresh dairy (eg milk & eggs), fresh provisions (eg bread) and some fresh cheeses (eg feta & burrata).

You will only be able to select 'London Delivery' to an address within 8 miles of our shop with any of these items in your basket.

    Orders for shop collection

You are able to pre-order and collect your order from our shop in Chelsea at a time and date convenient to you. We'll prepare and have it ready for the collection time and date that you choose. Choose 'Shop Collection' when you check out, and follow the prompts.

All the cheese for our online orders comes directly from the counter in our shop. Therefore, we will hold uncollected orders until the end of the following day, before refunding the order and putting the cheese back on the shop counter. If you are unable to make the agreed collection time, please let us know and we'll be more than happy to re-arrange the time and/or date with you, or hold it a little longer if you need.

We want to ensure you receive the best cheese possible, so please let us know if your plans change and we can cut and freshly prepare your order ready for your collection.

Is there a minimum order value?

No, we don’t have a minimum order value, but we do ask that you bear in mind the amount of packaging generated to send items via courier. Whilst it's great to order little and often, we do like to operate in a sustainable way and we’d like your help to achieve this.

        What is your packaging like?

We send our online shop orders in one of our brown cardboard gift boxes. The cheese comes from the counter in our Chelsea shop, and it will be cushioned and insulated with wood wool. If your order is especially large we will send it in a more industrial sized cardboard box.

Orders sent out using our named one-hour slot London service are in our own clear, sturdy and re-usable plastic bags. This is because many of the items on this service are often too bulky for the boxes, e.g. baguettes. If you would like your order packed in a box, please mention this in the "Please add any gift messages or notes here..." section as you check out. All London deliveries with a gift message are sent out in our gift boxes.

All the packaging we use to send our online orders in can be re-used, and is biodegradable or fully recyclable.

Can I place an order for delivery outside of Great Britain?

No. We currently only send online orders to addresses in mainland Great Britain.

How do I amend an order I have already placed?

If you need to amend your order, please call us on (020) 7730 2088. Typically we are happy to help you to amend your order if it isn't yet packed (which happens on the morning of dispatch), but we may need to extend this during peak times.

What's the cut-off for next-day delivery or shop collection?

The cut off for next-day national overnight delivery is 1pm the previous day.

For ASAP London deliveries and shop collection orders, your cheese will generally be ready no more than one hour after ordering. Final orders for same-day delivery are taken 1 hour before the shop closes. We close at 6pm Monday to Saturday and 5pm on Sundays.

Due to the volumes of orders we have at Christmas time, this time may get extended.

Do I need to be at home for the courier delivery?

            National overnight deliveries

No. The courier will send you a notification via email and text once your parcel is on the van for delivery. We also recommend that you leave instructions for the courier in the case of you're not in, for example, a safe place for the package to be left. Please bear in mind that the contents are perishable and edible, so should not be left out in the open. Foxes and other little creatures also love cheese. Due to the perishable nature of our products, orders are left in a safe place by default, unless you specify otherwise (either directly with us or with DHL).

            London deliveries

We strongly recommended that you or the recipient is in to take delivery of these orders.

If you are happy for an order to be left then please let us know before the delivery is attempted, otherwise your order will be returned to the shop by the courier and a new charge will be made for a new delivery attempt.

How do I track my order?

All deliveries are tracked. Please ensure you leave a mobile phone number and a valid e-mail address if you would like to receive this information.

For national next-day deliveries, you will receive a tracking number from the courier once they have your order and further updates from them through the parcel's delivery journey. These will come to you via email and/or text message. You can track your order using the DHL Tracking  web page or mobile app.

For local deliveries you'll receive a text and/or e-mail from our delivery partner, Orkestro, allowing you to track your delivery in real time.

What should I do if my order hasn't arrived?

The first thing to do is to check your order tracking information to see where your order is and if there is an issue. If you haven’t received your tracking information, or if there is a message or status update that you don’t fully understand, please call us straight away on (020) 7730 2088. We’ll be happy to help.

              Refunds

We advise you to unpack your cheese from its box as soon as it arrives. It’s our job to make sure your cheese reaches you in perfect condition, but in the unlikely event of a problem please contact us immediately.

We don’t accept returns of perishable goods but we will always seek to address any concerns you have about your order and find a suitable solution.

Should there be a quality concern surrounding the products you’ve received, we may ask you to send photos to help us better understand and resolve the issue.
